“Hey honey, your acid reflux seems to be bothering you more than not lately. You are choking on your food more and more. We may need to get this checked out.”
2 weeks later we are coming out of an endoscopy with the words “Barretts Esophagus.”
Well, that’s a scary term.
Barrett’s esophagus:
typically develops as a result of chronic exposure to stomach acid, often due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The condition is considered a precursor to esophageal adenocarcinoma, a type of cancer, and individuals with Barrett’s esophagus are at an increased risk of developing this cancer. Monitoring and management of Barrett’s esophagus are crucial to detect any signs of dysplasia or cancer early and to prevent progression to advanced stages.
Suddenly, we were thrust into a world of medical terms and treatment options, trying to navigate our way through the storm.
Initially, when my husband was diagnosed, we followed the doctor’s orders and dove headfirst into a regimen of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). These meds were supposed to help manage his symptoms, but they left us feeling like something was missing. We spent a number of years simply “managing” the symptoms. We wanted more than just a temporary fix – we craved a holistic approach that addressed the root cause.
So, we rolled up our sleeves and started researching. With my background in holistic health we decided it was time to approach his healing naturally.
One of the first steps we took was revamping our diet. Out went the spicy foods and caffeine, and in came a colorful array of anti-inflammatory goodies. But the real game-changer? Growing our own stash of turmeric and garlic right in our backyard! There’s something incredibly satisfying about nurturing your own healing garden, don’t you think?
We began a healing protocol with our “farmacy” and we knew we were in the right place when he began to feel better.
Next up, we hopped added apple cider vinegar in capsules. Because those with acid reflux and Barrett’s have sensitive GI tracts…it’s important NOT to use liquid as it will burn the throat. 2 capsules before meals helped regulate my husband’s stomach acid production, easing his discomfort and making meals more enjoyable.
And let’s not forget about raw honey – nature’s sweet embrace! This sticky elixir became our go-to for soothing my husband’s irritated esophagus. It’s amazing what a little spoonful of honey can do! Making a fermented honey, ginger tea along with slippery elm and powdered turmeric was key to his healing journey.
Now, here’s the greatest part – did our natural healing protocol actually work? Drumroll, please… Yes, it did! We were blown away by the results. My husband’s symptoms improved, and he started feeling like himself again. The latest scope showed NO signs of Barrett’s. It was a victory for us and a testament to the power of holistic healing.
The Healing Protocol:
Healthy Nutrition according to your DNA
Exercise daily according to your DNA
Get early morning red light
Sleep elevated
No food 2 hours before bedtime
Avoid soda, caffeine, sugar
Consume as a tea: Fermented Honey Ginger mixed with a 1/4 tsp of powdered turmeric and slippery elm (helps heal the lining of the esophagus)
Take 2 capsules of Raw with the mother ACV before a meal
FERMENTED HONEY GINGER:
1 32 ounce mason jar
Grate 2 large pieces of organic ginger
Add to the jar
Cover with raw honey and let sit on the counter
Open lid each day to “burp” the fermentation
Leave on counter and add to tea with turmeric and slippery elm
Throughout this journey, we’ve come to realize the importance of immune health. We’ve made it a priority to nourish our bodies with immune-boosting foods and activities, knowing that a strong immune system is our greatest ally in the fight against Barrett’s Esophagus.
So, there you have it – our journey from PPIs to natural healing. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding. If you or someone you love is dealing with Barrett’s Esophagus, know that there’s hope. Embrace the power of holistic healing, nourish your body with wholesome foods, and trust in the process. Together, we can conquer anything that comes our way!
Here’s to health, happiness, and the beauty of natural healing. Cheers to all of you on your own healing journeys – may they be filled with love, laughter, and plenty of turmeric-spiced adventures!
