Homesteading is on the rise and it’s not just a trend—it’s a lifestyle revolution. And I’m here for it.
People are ditching the hustle and grind for a self-sufficient, sustainable way of living. Many, myself included, are taking it back to our roots.
What’s driving this back to the land movement?
Let’s face it: the economy has been on a wild roller coaster ride. With job markets fluctuating and living costs skyrocketing, people are fed up with feeling financially insecure. Homesteading offers a way to mitigate this. Imagine growing your own food, generating your own power, and cutting down on those expensive bills. Many are taking control and saying goodbye to economic anxiety.
Some say 2024 is all about going green. Climate change (that’s a whole ‘nother article), pollution, and dwindling resources have everyone on high alert. Enter homesteading, the eco-warrior’s dream. Organic gardening, composting, and renewable energy are enticing methods to this next generation. It’s a lifestyle that lets you nurture the land while living sustainably.
We’re in an era where “you are what you eat” has never been more relevant. Processed foods and chemical additives? No, thank you. Have you seen what seed oils do to the body? Homesteading puts you in charge of what’s on your plate. Grow your own veggies, raise your own chickens, and know exactly what’s going into your food. It’s all about having food sovereignty…the ability to control where your food comes from and when and what you eat.
We’re drowning in a sea of screens and endless notifications. Digital detox, anyone? Homesteading offers a break from the virtual noise. Get your hands dirty, breathe in fresh air, and enjoy the simplicity of working with nature. It’s about reconnecting with the earth and yourself in a world that’s constantly online.
If you have heard me speak or write, you know the I continutally say, ” Homesteading isn’t just about going it alone—it’s about community.” From swapping seeds to sharing skills, homesteaders are building tight-knit networks of like-minded folks. Workshops, festivals, and online forums are buzzing with activity. It’s locking arms in community that makes the journey even more fulfilling.
Thanks to the internet, homesteading knowledge is just a click away. Blogs, YouTube channels, and social media groups are overflowing with tips and tutorials. (not to be in competition with community) Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned pro, there’s a wealth of information out there to help you thrive. No excuses, just opportunities.
The COVID-19 pandemic shook things up big time. It exposed the fragility of our systems and made us rethink what’s really important. Homesteading emerged as a powerful response to these challenges. It’s about creating a resilient lifestyle that can withstand whatever comes your way. Whatever you believe about the p(l)andemic…one thing we know for sure…the homestead surge hit like a tsunami, as Joel Salatin, says.
I truly believe homesteading is rising in 2024 because it hits all the right notes: financial stability, environmental stewardship, healthy living, and community connection. It’s more than a fad; it’s a bold move towards a freer, more intentional life. What I like to call a “WildCrafted Life.” So, why not embrace the wild and live free? Homesteading might just be the adventure you’ve been waiting for.
