Raising kids who know how to do things.

Our kids are growing up in a world with more information at their fingertips than any generation before them.

But information isn’t the same thing as capability.

Wildly Capable Kids + Teens is a hands-on skill series designed to give young people something they can carry with them long after The Homestead Event is over:

The confidence that comes from knowing, “I can figure this out.”

This isn’t about keeping kids entertained while the adults learn.

They’re here to learn, too. 

This specialty program is a seperate ticket. All kids have access to our regular kids activities with our forest school teacher.

FAQ'S

 Q)What is Wildly Capable Kids?

A)A hands-on skills program for kids to learn practical homesteading, outdoor, survival, and life skills.

 Q) Is Wildly Capable Kids included with general admission?

A) No. Wildly Capable Kids is a separate $35 add-on ticket**.

Each child chooses 2 of the 3 available workshops, while space is available.

Q) How many kids can participate?

A) Space is limited so workshops can stay hands-on and safe.

Each workshop has a set capacity and registration is first come, first served.

Q) Do parents stay during the workshops?

No. Parents sign their child in, may leave the workshop area, and return at the scheduled end time to sign them out. Homeschool Groups must have 1 teacher present for entire workshop.

Parents must remain on the event grounds and be reachable.

Q) Is this childcare?

A) No. Wildly Capable Kids is an educational workshop program, not childcare.

Q) Can my child go to the workshop without me?

A) Parents or guardians must bring children to the workshop and complete check-in.

Children will not travel to or from workshops on their own.

Q) How will we know where to go?

A) Each workshop will have a listed time and location.

Families will receive a schedule and map showing all Wildly Capable workshop locations.

Q) Can my child attend all three workshops?

A) No. Each Wildly Capable ticket includes 2 of the 3 workshops**.

Workshop choices are first come, first served and selected at time of ticket.

Q) What happens when a workshop fills up?

A) That workshop will no longer be available for selection.

Families will choose from the remaining open workshops.

Q) When does registration close?

A) Registration closes April 9, 2027, or earlier if workshops fill.

This gives instructors time to purchase and prepare materials.

Q) What ages can participate?

A) Recommended ages will be listed with each workshop.

Some activities may be better suited for older or younger children.

Q) What kinds of workshops will be offered?

Workshops may include skills such as fire-making, animal skills, navigation, food skills, traditional skills, and other hands-on homesteading activities.

The final three workshops will be listed when registration opens.

Q) What should my child bring?

A) Closed-toe shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, a water bottle, and clothes that can get dirty.

Any special workshop requirements will be listed in advance.

Q) What if my child needs me?

Parents must remain on the event grounds and be reachable during the workshop.

If your child needs you, our team will contact you.

Q) Who can pick up my child?

A) Children must be signed out by their parent, guardian, or approved adult.

Q) Do we need to sign a waiver?

A) Yes. A parent or legal guardian may be required to sign a participation waiver before a child joins certain hands-on workshops.

Q) Can homeschool groups attend?

A) Yes. Homeschool groups and co-ops are welcome to attend The Homestead Event.

Groups of 10 or more children may qualify for special homeschool group pricing for general admission. For each 10 children a homeschool group brings you receive 1 FREE adult GA ticket. Each adult must stay with the children for workshops or regular kids zone. 

Wildly Capable Kids workshops are a separate add-on and require individual registration while space is available.

Q) Do homeschool groups receive adult tickets?

Yes. Homeschool groups bringing **10 or more children receive 2 complimentary adult general admission tickets.*Please see note above. *

Those two adults must remain with the children throughout the event, assist with supervision in the Kids Zone, and help support the group during Wildly Capable Kids activities.

Q) Do homeschool group leaders stay with the kids?

A) Yes.

The designated homeschool group adults are responsible for staying with and supervising their group throughout the event.

They should also help move children between activities and volunteer within the Kids Zone and Wildly Capable Kids program as needed.

Q) Are homeschool groups guaranteed space in Wildly Capable Kids?

A) No.

Wildly Capable Kids workshops are limited-capacity and first come, first served.

Homeschool families who want to participate should register for the Wildly Capable add-on early. Or take advantage of our Kids Zone with playground equipment and organized activities. 

Q) Can siblings attend together?

Yes, as long as both meet the workshop age recommendations and space is available.

Q) Can my child leave a workshop early?

A) Yes, but a parent or approved adult must return and sign them out.

Q) What happens if we're late for pickup?

A) Please return by the listed end time.

Children cannot remain in the workshop area after the session ends.

Q) Where do we go with questions at the event?

A) Visit the Registration Booth or Kids Zone information area for help with schedules, locations, and registration.
